Truth

Watching this, I was reminded of Neil Gaiman's American Gods, of the conversation Shadow and Bast have in the Land of the Dead

"Which path should I take?" he asked. "Which one is safe?"

"Take one, and you cannot take the other," she said. "But neither path is safe. Which way would you walk — the way of hard truths or the way of fine lies?"

"Truths," he said. "I've come too far for more lies."

She looked sad. "There will be a price, then," she said.

There is a price for hard truths, but is it greater than the price we have paid for the fine lies? Isn't it time we demanded truth, no matter how hard, and acknowledge that nothing in life is free, instead of constantly accepting the lies and then being surprised at the cost? Haven't we all come too far for more lies?
