The Mercy Seat

I don't remember a time when I did not oppose the death penalty. Because I think we should have evolved from the eye for an eye form of justice. Because I feel state sanctioned murder discourages all people from valueing the lives of others. Because by murdering people we rob ourselves of the opportunity to forgive them (understanding that forgiveness is not the same as forgetfulness, nor is it the same as exoneration). Because it is wrong.

So I am beyond proud that my state has finally abolished the death penalty.
